Online Bingo : Not A Sport
Bingo isn't a sport like many people think. Bingo will and can never be seen as a sport ever. It is a game, that can be said but it is a gambling game that involves money. Yes, with bingo one can place a bet and one can earn some money from it. In bingo a person does not compete against anyone else except the online computer but that's just about it. In bingo there is no league of bingo-ers like in baseball or in basketball. Finally, one cannot say bingo is a sport because there is no chance for competition to ever exist in the game. Its strictly a one call, one daub game.
There are many people who make the attempt to convince other people that poker involves skill and should be made into a sport. Sometimes the sense of other people can be irrational at times. Just because the game is broadcast on TV and the hosting of many tournaments all over the world do not make it a sport. Even if the game has been featured in many sports channels it is not a sport.
Games of chance like poker have a better chance of being called a sport for they call upon players to pit their skills amongst themselves. Bingo doesn't do that hence it cant be a sport.
Bingo is actually a simple game that uses a simple rule and has simple results. One plays with a card that has a lot of numbers jumbled on it. The way it works in that numbers are called out and the player simply has to mark the numbers out. The first person that can get the numbers marked out in a line wins. Winning is only a line away in bingo.
Over 20 million players of bingo cant be wrong when it comes to learning the ropes. Most players are scattered across the globe with the US and the Uk leading the pack of players. Small bingo communities have popped out all over the place but what is clear is that bingo is steadily increasing in numbers.
Probably the only thing that bingo has that sports has is the access to media and the masses by way of internet and also by internet social networking.
Bingo is one of the games that enable players to chat with other players from other points or origins and make new ones as well. Bingo chat rooms don't really specify the gender or race of a person so its like getting to know you lesson 101 from life. Aside from making the chat rooms a place of social interactions, it can also be used for communicating information and tips on the game buit normally these chats end up into social rooms where almost anything is discussed under the sun.
The chat rooms now cater to an increasing number of women as compared to men and it can hardly be said that bingo is definitely not a sport!
Sports fans are known for their strong opinions and adamant supportive behaviour as well as their desire to discuss views and events, and so the internet has now turned what would have normally been a chat about sport among friends into a huge global forum. Social networking sites create huge fan bases and communities. Bingo too creates a large network of players and on networks like that operated by St Minver, it is easy to see how forums and chat rooms are used almost 1 million players that have registered since its inception.
Forums are traditionally male dominated but research shows that women are becoming more and more the mainstay when it comes to social networking sites. That is certainly the case for Bingo, where women are the more dominant force in playing and in the chat rooms, some 60/% as opposed to men who make up the other 40%.
Try suggesting to those women that bingo might be a sport or skill game like poker and you will soon be directed to a little chat room in the corner, all on your own!
